IS IT SPRING YET?: Dateline: April 11, 2007 The weeds started growing, the birdies started hanging out at our birdie-bath entrapper, and we thought spring was here at last. Not so. We had a White Easter! We do not despair, though, because we know that sooner or later one of those birds is going to get close enough to our window that we can leap through the screen and grab it. Then we will snack on it just as we snack on those big crickets that get into our house every August. Indoor cats are intrepid hunters too! MEOWMIES & FAHFURS: May and June have holidays to honor ourown human purrents. Just what are our duties toward those who live with us and (too often) share our sleeping places? Sometimes it seems that no matter how often we wake them at 4:30 am or sample their fude fur them they aren't appurrciative. Scooter is one of the many underapurrciated toms we know. He often comes to Paddy's looking so sad from the maltreatment he receives at home. When he was only a kitten he was laughed at when he slid across the floor on his polydactyl paws! Hisown Meowmie even referred to him as a "wussy little boy"! Such abuse! Scooter, like all tomz, does so much fur his furmily. Without Scooter his Daddy couldn't do furry much and what he did do would be done all wrong. He depends on Scooter fur everything! Here are a couple of examples from the many, many photos in our files that show how this tom shows his willingness to help his purrents. Scooter's daddy requires supervision if he is to succeed in even the the simplest of his gardening endeavors. Here Scooter oversees everything involved in framing and general maintence while wondering "Why not just plant nipz?" Hard working though he is helping his daddy, he hears his meowmie working in the kitchen and knows that she needs his help also! He gives his daddy a few simple instructions to follow and goes to purrform even more of his unending and unapurreciated service to his furmily. His meowmie is baking a cake fur his daddy's birthday. Caturally Scooter tastes each ingredient to be certain of its quality. Just another in the long list of tasks he purrforms in the kitchen every day. (If felines aren't supposed to be there, why is it called a KITchen?) At last someone apurrciates him! Scooter rests a little with his daddy. He mewed, "Me and daddy watching our favorite football team, the San Francisco 49ers. We had pizza and nipzbeer and my sisfurs didn't get any." And this is the "thanks" he gets from his meowmie! We think this sort of cruelty and humiliation should be outlawed and the purrpretrators forced to wear the silly clothes they put on their loving kitties! OUROWN MEOWMIE PAGE: FWIW: Ourown Meowmie's Day page we pawed last year tells of the high standards we set fur her and which she meets (mostly). She was sick much of the winter and got well just in time fur the giant ice storm whereupon she had a humpty-dumpty size fall; she's feeling better now thanks to the purrs sent her way fur which she says "Fangu". That brings up another question: what can we do fur purrents who get sick? After all, we don't know the recipe fur chicken soup! Purrhaps the best thing to do fur sick peepuls is what we kitties already do: give lots of whisker tickles and head bonks!
